HISTORY OF THE CLUB

Welcome to the Sabine Valley Amateur Radio Association Website. We are located in Greenville – Hunt

County, Texas. The Sabine Valley ARA (SVARA) was established in Hunt County over 50 years ago and

has been active since that time. The club almost disappeared in 2004 as the membership & support of

club activities diminished, but with the foresight of a few SVARA members the club has made a

turnaround and is under new leadership. The new President and his officers are dedicated to putting

SVARA back in the mainstream of community activities and public support that it once had. Thanks for

DO YOU NEED COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT FOR YOUR EVENT ?

If you sponsor or hold a public event that needs communications support for logistics and/or safety & would

like to request our services please send an e-mail to the link below. We are federally licensed amateur

radio operators & will provide our services and equipment on a volunteer basis. For your event to be

considered it must support a non-profit or charitable organization (local or national), or be a county/city

sponsored public event held within Hunt County. For reference, we provide our services to the annual Cotton

Patch Classic Bicycle Races & Majors Fly-In. If you need our help e-mail this link info@k5gvl.org with all the

details of your event including organization supported, type of event (bicycle-parade-marathon, etc.), date & time, & please give as much notice as possible for planning time.

WHY USE AMATEUR RADIO AT YOUR EVENT?

  • Amateur Radio Volunteer Operators are highly trained to handle emergency communications in a professional manner
  • Unlike cell phones which are limited to a 2 person conversation, amateur radio can be 2 stations, or all stations at once
  • We provide our time & equipment at no cost to you; including handheld-mobile-portable stations & repeaters
  • All our operators are National Weather Service trained storm spotters which adds another level of safety to your event
